How is the maintenance aspect of this proposal going to work?

Case 1: new English localizable string is added - will translators be somehow notified? Case 2: localizable string is removed - will corrsesponding translations be identified and sceduled for removal also? Case 3: text of localizable string is changed - will references to translations be updated automatically and translators notified to review translations to match? Additionally, this is usually tied into release process... Not to extinguish anybody's enthusiasm, but without those there's less value in this fixture. It's been done, but in such a heavyweight form that few use such comprehensive tools.

I don't think that those cases are in the realm of the language syntax, but rather in the product development operation. I believe those cases will be well dealt with IDEs. Naoto 21:25, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
